1.  How can being an independent contractor enhance my business?
As an independent contractor, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to hone your presentation and training skills while leading seminars for thousands of customers across the United States and Canada, and around the world. Over our 40-year history we have become experts in the marketing and operational aspects of conducting seminars, allowing our trainers to concentrate on delivering the highest quality training. Your relationship with us offers you the flexibility to build your own business and continue to serve your established clients.

2.  What qualifications are you looking for in your team of contract trainers?
Of course, our first requirement of all trainers is to possess exceptional training abilities as well as a love of public speaking and training. A successful trainer should not only be able to present in a compelling and entertaining way, but should also have genuine skills and interest in teaching adults. As we move into an increasingly technological era, we also need instructors who are skilled in computer software applications as well as back office products. Our customers rely on our trainers to speak from their own experiences in the business world. Consulting with customers about their ongoing training needs and recommending appropriate training products and services is a vital part of what our trainers can offer to our customers.

3. What courses are you currently seeking independent contract trainers for?
We offer an impressive array of seminar topics and then contract with experts in each of these areas of business to deliver training to our customers. Click here to view a current listing of training topics for which we are actively seeking experienced trainers.

4.  How can I find out more?
We have designed a more detailed document to answer many of your questions and explain the application and audition process. You may view the document.

5.  I'm interested in pursuing a vendor relationship with Fred Pryor Seminars and CareerTrack.  What's my next step?
All Contract Trainer Bids must be submitted to our Trainer Review Committee.  The review process has three phases.  Each of these phases is specifically designed to allow you the opportunity to demonstrate your skills and services, as well as learn more about our organization and expectations along the way.

6. How can I have a successful audition?
Your audition is the best way for you to show us you have the skills we are looking for in a contract trainer. You will want to review our General Required Competencies . As you prepare your audition, refer to the following list as a guide. These are the specific areas in which you will be evaluated:

  • Dynamic presentation skills: appropriate energy level, good variety of gestures and movement, rate, tone, vocal variety, and just plain fun!
  • Training ability: audience interaction, appropriate examples, variety of examples, structure, transitions, and level of application
  • Sales-mindedness: using outside resources to support content and delivering a continuous learning message
  • Credibility: professional appearance, ability to build rapport and attitude

7. Does my business need to be incorporated?
As an independent contractor, you will sign a Trainer Agreement requiring that we contract with you through your corporation. If you are not operating your trainer business through an existing corporation, you will need to incorporate your business before you can sign the Trainer Agreement. Consult with your tax or legal advisers about the necessary steps and possible advantages available to you from incorporating. We are able to enter into contracts with companies that are classified as S-Corporations, C-Corporations, or Limited Liability Companies (LLCs).

8.  What type of insurance does my business need before I can begin contracting with Fred Pryor Seminars and CareerTrack?
The Trainer Agreement requires your business to be covered with $1 million of General Liability insurance and a rider on your auto insurance. You will also need to provide proof of Workman's Comp. To find out more information about coverage options, ask your insurance provider about an umbrella policy.

9.  If I am the only employee of my business, do I still need Workman's Comp?
Yes.  You will need to carry Workman's Comp coverage on yourself.  This insurance is designed to cover injuries which you incur while delivering training with Fred Pryor Seminars and CareerTrack.

10.  Are a laptop computer and LCD/DLP projector required?
We are growing more and more dependent on e-mail as one of the primary methods of communication with our network of trainer vendors.  A laptop computer, projector, and a surge protector/power strip are required for training of our topics. Laptop computers and projectors increase revenue opportunities by facilitating the training process and demonstration of products.

PowerPoint presentations are available for your use when leading any of our topics or you may create your own. We provide a screen for all trainers who carry their laptops and projectors. If you choose not to use these tools, nothing will be provided. We do not supply projectors of any type, nor do we furnish flipcharts.

11.  What revenue potential can I expect?
Our top performers who work full training schedules generate revenues in excess of $75K annually for their businesses.  Several factors contribute to their success and will determine whether you match or exceed this revenue potential:

  • The experience you bring initially to this opportunity
  • The number of work orders you accept
  • Your ability to incorporate feedback quickly
  • Your ability to successfully sell CareerStore training resources
